Fab Floor Scheduler utilizes heuristic logic that strives to achieve target factory output schedules, as well as target cycle times and target work-in-process (WIP) levels calculated for individual manufacturing steps. A new, volume-based scheduling logic was developed and shown to be superior to traditional lot-based dispatching logic. Dispatching priority in this logic is assigned to lot quantities of manufacturing steps rather than to individual lots and is based on the calculated deficit or surplus of downstream actual WIP versus target. These priorities are inputs to heuristic assignment algorithms that assign lot quantities to non-homogeneous machines and tooling in each manufacturing work cell so as to maximize schedule adherence and equipment throughput, accounting for setups, batching opportunities, and equipment qualifications. These schedules are continuously updated as new WIP arrives in each cell.
